Spirit of
Giving
Spirit
of Giving is a service-learning experience
that provides students in low-income
communities with backpacks filled with
school supplies, books and toy. More than
the tangible gifts, the goal of the
program is to teach children to be giving
people through example, stories and a
specialized curriculum. Volunteer storytellers read
stories about giving to the students.
Then the children are asked to "pay it
forward" by volunteering their services at
school, in their neighborhood, or by
performing an act of kindness in their home
or family environment.
In 2007, this
program reached:
- 2,313 1st
grade students
- 20 Title 1
schools
- 113 teachers
- 6 Orange
County, CA cities
